چکیده

Materials and methods: Gingival epithelial cells were seeded and cultured at 10−3 G in a three-dimensional clinostat to simulate microgravity (group CL) or in normal gravity (group C) for 10 days. Cell proliferation was analyzed by counting the numbers of cells. Real-time polymerase chain reaction was performed to amplify the krt 5, krt 13 and involucrin genes. Additionally, total protein was immunoblotted with anti-krt 13 antibody. Statistical analysis (n = 9, three groups repeated three times) was performed (ANOVA, Tukey’s test, p < 0.05).

Avian Blood Vessel Formation in Space: Both Microgravity in Space and Mechanical Loading during the Launch Might Affect Vascular Development in the Quail Chorioallantoic Membrane

INTRODUCTION: On earth, gravitational forces seem to play a major role in the initial stages of embryonic development, such as proper orientationof the embryo, separation of yolk from albumen, etc. Previous studies indicated that exposure to weightlessness (microgravity) during space flight might result in abnormalities in embryonic and fetal development in birds, amphibians and mammals, especi...

Alterations of the cytoskeleton in human cells in space proved by life-cell imaging

Microgravity induces changes in the cytoskeleton. This might have an impact on cells and organs of humans in space. Unfortunately, studies of cytoskeletal changes in microgravity reported so far are obligatorily based on the analysis of fixed cells exposed to microgravity during a parabolic flight campaign (PFC). This study focuses on the development of a compact fluorescence microscope (FLUMIA...

Fluid volume control during short-term space flight and implications for human performance.

Space flight exerts substantial effects on fluid volume control in humans. Cardiac distension occurs during the first 1-2 days of space flight relative to supine and especially upright 1g conditions. Plasma volume contraction occurs quickly in microgravity, probably as a result of transcapillary fluid filtration into upper-body interstitial spaces. No natriuresis or diuresis has been observed i...

Simulated microgravity induced damage in human retinal pigment epithelial cells.

PURPOSE The goal of this study was to determine the potential damage to the human retina that may occur from weightlessness during space flight using simulated microgravity. METHODS Human retinal pigment epithelial (hRPE) cells were cultured for 24 h in a National Aeronautics and Space Administration-designed rotating wall bioreactor vessel to mimic the microgravity environment of space. Sing...

The Role of Microgravity in Cancer: A Dual-edge Sword

Since human beings could travel beyond the earth atmosphere, scientists started to investigate the effect of microgravity on human cells. Microgravity has different effects on normal and cancer cells, but the related mechanisms are not well-known till now. The aim of the present review is to focus on the consequences of exposing the cancer cells to reduced gravity. Some cancer cells organize th...
